2006 Mission Fair

2006 saw our second Missions Fair. This three-day event featured missionaries, mission organizations, food, and a new congregational awareness of missions.

The event was divided into three daily components.

Friday Evening - Camden Dinner with Tim Humeniuk

The Camden, NJ Neighborhood Center does an incredible work among the poor and disadvantaged people of Camden NJ. Tim Humeniuk, center director joined us on Friday evening to tell us about his work there. Also, chef Vice Klemovitch treated us to dinner Camden style, with hoagies, two kinds of cheese steaks, TastyKakes, and other good things.

Saturday Afternoon - Mission Fair in the Del-Meth Hall

Over 14 missionaries and mission organizations set up booths in our Del-Meth hall and joined us personally. About 5 others provided displays. Mission-minded crafts were available for children. Everyone had the opportunity to taste foods from around the world. Visitors came from other area churches as well as our own congregation. For everyone there was a new appreciation for missions, what is being done now, and what needs to be done in the future.

Sunday Morning - Bill Reasoner

Bill Resoner is no stranger to Dobbins. At one time our district superintendent, Bill has a strong heart for missioins. It was through Bill that our church has been honored with visits from missionary pilot Ken Enright. Ken is gone now, but his vision continues through Ken's son. Bill has worked closely with the Enrights for a number of years and brought us up-to-date regarding their ministry..

Only eternity will reveal the true impact of an event such as this one.

For each of us, it is important that we support missions according to God's leading. Those of us who never visit the field but stay home and pray and give are serving and are vitally important to the missions effort. Some of us will be led to be even more active. We never know what the future may have in store.

Special thanks to Missions Chairperson Rose Jenkins, and Pastor Steve Elliot and his wife Corrine (who served as a missionary to Poland) , and all of our congregation who worked to make this event a success.
